Ministry Ideas:
Why I focus so heavily on Park Orientated Ministries is because I don't ever interupt somebody watching their favorite sporting event, I never interept somebody having supper, I never interupt somebody sleaping, I never interept anybody fighting with their spouse, and I never interept anybody yelling at their kids. And, best yet, you never get a door slammed on you!
Usually people in the park are relaxed, unintoxicated, willing to listen and talk.

If your ministry can reach one or more of the five senses, you have a greater chance of gaining their curiosity or attention. Here are a few ministry ideas that have come to my attention:
Painting in the Park,

Painting in the park appeals to sight, and sometimes i add an element of sound, which can be either live or canned music.

Passing out Flowers in the Park

On Friday, pick up a dozen flowers from your local flower shop and then on Sabbath afternoon, you can hand them out to the people in the park!

My recommendation is that you do not just hand out a tract, because it is too easy to throw into the garbage, rather; give them something that has a value to go with it. A good example of this would be Bottled water, where you simply have put on a label (tract) on it. What you get here, is a much greater potential for the person receiving the gift, to drink the water and spend a few moments reading the tract/label. A Hot summer day is perfect for this Ministry Idea!

Simply a business card that gives contact information if a person requires help in a certain area. Areas that can be listed can be "Homecare", "Accompaniment", "Gardening", "shoveling of walks/driveways", "Ride to the store/appointments", "Ride to church", "Bible studies", "prayer", etc.

Smoothies

The smoothie gift idea is great because when you turn on your vitamix in a hot day in a park, and start putting in all the fresh fruit that you bought on the preparation day (friday), not only will people hear you, but they will see you.
You can pass out this wonderful looking fruit smoothie to people around you (for example in a park) that were salvating at the idea only minutes before. When they accept this free gift, no cost, you can respond by sharing what the free gift of Jesus has meant to you, no strings attached! |
